CE 480 Chemistry of Environmental Toxins

The transport and long-term fate of toxic compounds in the environment. Classification, nomenclature, reactivity, equilibrium, chemical thermodynamics, mass transfer, phase transfer, partitioning, and accumulation. The physical and chemical mechanisms/processes associated with air-water exchange, organic-liquid exchange, sorption and desorption. Focus on box models, priority pollutants and risks to drinking water quality.
