USP 520 Demographic Methods: Population Dynamics

Offers a survey of demographic methods and introduces measurement and modeling of population dynamics. Students will calculate birth rates and life expectancy from vital statistics and census data, and make global comparisons using age standardization. Topics covered include health and mortality variability across age, time, and space, and disparities. Expected preparation: Students should have completed an upper-division course in statistics or econometrics.
