ME 491 Design Process and the Mechanical Engineering Profession

Design methodologies are discussed as a framework for solving broadly defined technology problems. Interdisciplinary organizational principles are presented as tools in the design process and as a foundation for the subsequent project course. Topics related to effective and responsible practice of mechanical engineering including engineering ethics, intellectual property, business practices, life-long learning, the relationship of engineering to society, and an awareness of contemporary local and global issues are presented. Lectures, weekly and term case studies.
