G 475 Introduction to Seismology and Site Evaluation

Earthquakes and exploration seismology, the origin and occurrence of earthquakes, nature and propagation of seismic waves in the earth, earthquakes as a hazard to life and property. Uses of reflection and refraction exploration seismology, borehole velocity measurements, seismic remote sensing, and direct measurement techniques. Earthquake hazard assessment including liquefaction, ground failure, and site amplification. Techniques for evaluating the susceptibility, potential, and severity of the hazards and other science and engineering applications. This course is the same as CE 443 and may be taken only once for credit.
