An examination of common systems and practices understood as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) including prevalence, patterns of use, trends, consumer health beliefs and motivations, and integration with mainstream allopathic medicine; philosophical, historical and political dimensions; theories of health and illness; evidence-based research vs. traditional and folk beliefs; and a consideration of benefits and limitations considering the growing popularity.
