Art 374 Intermediate Sculpture II: Space, Site, and Intervention

The second of a two-term course that focuses on contemporary sculptural practices. Course explores current sculptural investigations of a space and site. Students are exposed to the contemporary practices of installation, site-specific art, and sculptural intervention. Through assignments that emphasize conceptual development and critical thinking, students will create artworks that explore the historical, social, contextual, and spatial elements of specific spaces and sites. There will be continued development of one’s personal voice and a further refining of the necessary vocabulary in which to discuss their work as well as other’s work. Students will work in a variety of media while continuing to utilize and build upon the technical and conceptual knowledge acquired in lower-division sculpture courses. Open to non-majors with instructor’s consent.Recommended preparation: Art 291 and Art 292 (expected of art & art history majors).
