Ph 451 Electron Microscopy

Electron optics theory, specimen preparation and experimental work with transmission and scanning electron microscopes, Microchemical analysis with an energy dispersive spectrometer. Specimens from all the sciences. Two lectures, one 3-hour laboratory period. This is the first course in a sequence of two: Ph 451 and Ph 452. Also offered for graduate-level credit as Ph 551 and may be taken only once for credit. Recommended prerequisites: one year of general physics and one year of any other science.
