Jpn 577 Teaching Japanese As a Foreign Language

Principles of instructional methods in teaching Japanese to speakers of languages whose orthography is not Kanji-based. Readings in language pedagogy, particularly the pedagogy of non-Indo-European languages. Students are required to teach and observe classes in an approved Japanese program. This is the first course in a sequence of two: Jpn 577 and Jpn 578. Also offered for undergraduate-level credit as Jpn 477 and may be taken only once for credit. Recommended prerequisites: Ling 390, Jpn 303.
