FILM 384U American Cinema and Culture I

Examination of the American film industry as an art form, as an industry, and as a system of representation and communication within the context of American popular culture. Rather than being strictly chronological, the course focuses on ideas, problems, issues, and thematic concerns. Primary period of focus will extend from the era of the speechless cinema through 1945. Recommended prerequisites: Film 131 and sophomore standing.
