Art 260 Black and White Photography

Studio introduction to black and white photography using both film-based darkroom and digital imaging techniques, including 35mm camera controls, film processing, enlargement, digital image capture, and basic digital image adjustment. Assignments focus on two dimensional design principles of line, shape, pattern, texture, symmetry, asymmetry, and vantage point, and culminate in a coherent photo story. While learning basic photographic techniques, students discuss form, content, and the aesthetics of photographic image-making. Studio includes lecture, demonstration, critique, and supervised lab work. Students must furnish a focusing film camera with adjustable f-stops and shutter speeds. Automatic cameras must have manual override.
