Examination and analysis of human symbolic activity as the management of meaning, with the capacity to shape and influence thought, action, and world view. Particular attention given to assumptions regarding intent, effects, meaning, understanding, and interpretation, and their implications for studying communication from modernist and post-modernist perspectives.
