Anth 516 Urban Anthropology

Cross-cultural examination of urban phenomena including: variability in cultural and institutional patterning of cities, acculturation processes affecting urban populations, migration and social accommodation of rural and tribal peoples to urban settings, and the varieties of new subcultures that emerge in urban society. Also offered for undergraduate-level credit as Anth 416 and may be taken only once for credit. Expected preparation: 8 credits in sociocultural anthropology or allied social science (Anth 304, 305 strongly recommended).
