SW 420 Trauma Informed Mental Health Practice

Trauma-informed mental health practice seeks to develop competencies in the provision of key principles to support individuals, families, and communities. The course addresses historical trauma; recovery models; risk/protective factor models; DSM-5; and assessment/treatment strategies. This course seeks to develop students’ knowledge and skills through case discussions, exploration of selected practices, and critical analysis of the ways in which mental health is historically shaped by culture and society; biology; and psychopharmacology or its absence.
