Hst 344U Jews and Judaism in America

Students will understand the emergence of an American-Jewish identity over the past several hundred years by examining significant religious, cultural, and social developments in American Jewry from the colonial period to the present. Themes include patterns in migration, acculturation, religious innovation, cultural production, ethnic and religious identity, intergroup relations and antisemitism, and relationships to other Jewish communities in Israel and Europe.
