Hst 330U Native American History I

Examines Indigenous sovereignty from precontact through the mid-nineteenth century. Analyzes how tribal nations exercised, defended, and negotiated their sovereignty amid European and American colonization. Topics include contested claims over the continent, colonial violence and conflict, Indigenous diplomatic and economic strategies, the emergence of federal Indian policy, and ongoing resistance to colonization through 1853.
