Epi 514 Applied Epidemiologic Reasoning & Inference

This course advances students’ skills in epidemiologic reasoning and inference through applied analysis of contemporary public health questions. Students critically assess the validity of evidence by examining sources of bias, confounding, and effect modification, and by reflecting on how bias also arises in processes of knowledge production. Working collaboratively, students synthesize findings across bodies of evidence, evaluate when data support causal interpretation, and communicate inferences for policy and practice. Emphasis is placed on integrating descriptive and analytic approaches, deepening reflexivity about positionality and perspective, and strengthening judgment about when and how evidence justifies action.
