Licensure
In addition to completing degree or certificate requirements, candidates seeking educator licensure must meet Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) requirements to be eligible for recommendation for licensure. These licensure requirements are separate from academic credential requirements and must be completed before the university can recommend a candidate to TSPC.
Licensure requirements may include successful completion of supervised clinical practice (e.g., student teaching, practicum, or internship) in an approved setting with evaluation by both a university supervisor and cooperating professional; completion of a state-approved performance based assessment of professional practice (e.g., edTPA); passing required content knowledge tests (NES ORELA, ETS Praxis) aligned to endorsement area(s); completion of state-required training in areas such as educator ethics and civil rights, and fingerprinting and background clearance requirements.
The educator license is issued by TSPC following university recommendation. Completion of a degree or certificate program alone does not result in licensure. Additional information regarding program-specific clinical practice, assessments, and testing requirements is available in the applicable program handbook. Information regarding currently-approved content knowledge tests is available through TSPC.
