Surveys religious, philosophical, and scientific writings on love from the ancient world to late modernity. An introduction to the history of emotions and “emotionology” as a method of inquiry. Special attention paid to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in the Middle Ages, as well as to colonialism, nationalism, and family in the early modern and modern periods.
