Soc 450 Sociology of Higher Education

Social factors affecting individuals within higher education. Particular attention to inequalities within higher education and the role higher education plays in promoting social mobility as well as social reproduction. Includes models of higher education, the application of sociological theories to issues in higher education, access to college, Affirmative Action, standardized testing, and class, race, and gender-based differences in individual educational outcomes and retention. Also offered for graduate-level credit as Soc 550 and may be taken only once for credit.
