Comm 539 Gesture and Meaning in Everyday Talk

How humans use gesture and vocal intonation in conversation, with a primary emphasis on informal settings, interaction of gesture with language, metaphorical aspects of gesture, and the contribution of gesture to cognitive and interactive processes of message origination and interpretation. Also offered for undergraduate-level credit as Comm 439 and may be taken only once for credit. Expected preparation: Comm 311 or equivalent; upper-division or graduate standing.
