Hst 421 Topics in Modern Japanese History

Selected themes in modern Japanese history, including the construction of the nation-state, modernization, Japan's drive to great power status, Japan's emergence as an imperialist power, state-society relations, and modernity outside Europe. (Maximum number of credits is 12; 4 credits each for three courses with different topics.) Also offered for graduate-level credit as Hst 521.
