BSt 424 African American/African Culture in Cinema

An examination of the treatment accorded black culture and individuals in the evolution of the cinema industry. Coverage will include review and analysis of classic film productions from the infancy of Hollywood through to the black urban films of the modern period. Emphasis will focus on the relationships between racial stereotypes and the creation of majority culture perceptions of the black experience.
