The Mark O. Hatfield School of Government is dedicated to improving governance through the integration of theory and practice. Scholarly inquiry is the foundation of the school's global programs that focus on public service, social justice, and governance.

The School of Government is one of three schools within the College of Urban and Public Affairs. It offers two Ph.D. programs:  

• The Public Affairs and Policy Ph.D. program and
• The Health Systems and Policy Ph.D. program.

The School consists of three academic divisions:

• Division of Criminology and Criminal Justice,
• Division of Political Science, and 
• Division of Public Administration,

and six institutes:

• Criminal Justice Policy Research Institute,
• Center for Public Service,
• the National Policy Consensus Center,
• the Institute for Tribal Administration,
• Center for Turkish Studies, and the
• Center for Women's Leadership.
